Evelyn Montague 1922 Bunsen Confectionery PROOF card with a plain back.,#302 (see also, on this website. the regular card with the printed back)The track & field legend, one of the real-life stars of whom the film, "Chariots of Fire" was based, though called Augbry Montague in the movie, it's 100% E.A..This card has a very light corner crease lower left corner seen from front, possibly caused by an album indent, otherwise it's clean, Sold as seen with this minor faults. Sold as seenE.A. Montague was a steeplechaser and a 5000m runner. The "3 Mile Crack" athlete is celebrated om this regular Bunsen card (see also the proof card of Montague I have elsewhere on this site) due to his amazing 1920 performances. He decided not to go to the 1920 Antwerp games, though he could have, opting to go to Paris Olympics in 1924 his performance there was overshadowed by his later career as the track & field journalist who sang the praises of Jesse Owens atthe Nazi Olympics in 1936.He was also a war correspondent.  In 1948, Alexander Clifford, wrote: "There is no doubt in my mind that Evelyn Montague was the most important correspondent of this war. His name was, of necessity, not so well known to the general public as some others. But among his own colleagues no one was rated higher. His outstanding quality was his unswerving integrity. He was uncompromisingly honest in his work. He would not tolerate any glossing over or any artistic licence or any deviation from strict accuracy on even the smallest detail. He set a very austere standard of reporting. He was always concerned to get as much of his material at first hand as possible. And it goes without saying that he abhorred armchair strategy and criticism." - How times have changed in journalism! For more, see: https://ww2ondeadline.substack.com/p/evelyn-montague-war-correspondent-olympicsThe card is stubbed lower right corner , album indent lower left corner, otherwise clean, Sold as seen with these two minor faults.
