Captains Fritz Szepan and Erik Nilsson meeting in the middle before the 1937 World Cup qualifying game in Hamburg that Germany won 5-0.
Szepan, was a one club man, spending his entire career at Schalke 04, and he also led his country in the 1934 and 1938 World Cups. He went on to manage Schalke and was the club president in the mid 1960's.
Nilsson was a stand out player for Malmo FF. He played nineteen seasons with the Swedish club and was well recognised as the captain and leader of the team that won five league titles and five Swedish Cups during his tenure. He earned 57 caps for his country and is one of only two players to have played in the two World Cups either side of the second world war.
