On their way to the Spanish island their entire squad was shipwrecked off the coast of Galicia when the vessel they were travelling on (SS Highland Loch) ran into trouble.
Abandoning ship they climbed into the lifeboats and were led to safety by local fishermen. Making a collective decision to continue their journey they played six matches in Las Palmas, winning them all.
Players included Bill Inglis (Manchester United) Alex James POSSIBLE ROOKIE ? (Preston and Arsenal) and Tom Jennings (Leeds United)
